Checkmate for Change held the 1st Annual Langley Chess Tournament on February 22th, 2024, at Langley High School in McLean, VA. We were able to raise over $1500 to support Share of McLean, an nonprofit organization that provides food and clothing to those in need. The tournament also boasted over 30 players across the K-12 and K-8 sections.
Ameya Haldankar ended up winning the K-12 Section after an intense last round game against Aarnav Sathu, both players having perfect records up to the last round. Zaidan Ghazal won the K-8 section after a close game against Sieon Jeon, who was the runner up.
This event could not have been possible without the collaboration with the Langley PTSA, who provided free pizza for all participants! We look forward to running this event next year.
